The Things I Do....

I don't change my skin or shape very often. In truth, while I have a lot of skins in my inventory and several incarnations of my current shape, I tend to find one I like and stick. I've been the skin and shape you usually see me in for nearly six months. That said, sometimes it's fun to shake things up, to see if you can come up with an entirely new look -- and do it without breaking the bank.

Here are two looks, vastly different, and with the exception of a few pieces, free or dollarbie finds.

If you want to slide into your gothic androgyne look, hit up [Kosh] for the dollarbie Luvox Male Skin, currently up. It will be gone next week so grab it now. The shape I'm using here is the Josh shape that came with the Belleza release to group members. (Yes, you do have to pay $250 to join the group as was previously mentioned.)

After donning my shape and skin, I grabbed the shoulder bag also from [Kosh], and the Rusty Skulls necklace. The hand bracelet is a freebie from [GQ Start] and the other wrist wrap is from [Sable Rose] (this one was not free, but there are a set of denim wraps there that are.)

And next door to Kosh is [Concrete Flowers] where I picked up the Checked Jeans and Free Swag shirt. the hair is Bryce: Onion from [Savoir Hair].

The second look cost a little more clothes-wise, but as was announced in the group, [Fear & Clothing] is having a sale at the main store in Londoom, and [Perfectionist] is also having a sale -- this is a good time to let go of some Lindens. You can find jeans and some shirts for $50L, which is not a bad deal. But amid those sale items, look close because this skin is a freebie from [Perfectionist], as are the jeans*. The jacket is a sale item from [F&C], ($65L) and the undershirt is from the F&C store at Sn@tch City for $1L (or free). In this case, the hair is not free -- this is Army Crop from MADesigns ($300L) and you need a hair base scalp to wear it which the [Perfectionist] skin has.

*a note on the free jeans: they show up as secondary shirt layers, and older version of the clothing layers you some times see. You can wear regular shirts with them, just be aware that the clothing layers are a little different than what you usually see.

I Want Peppermint Candy

Alice Barzane owns Fashion Bar Peppermint Blue, commonly known as Peppermint Blue.  It is a popular hangout as well as a site for select venders and freebie distribution.   It has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. I for one look forward to Alice's frequent and generous releases.  Alice releases at least one set per week and more and more frequently this includes a set for men.  This week there are 2 sets for men: Newbie Assistance Pack SeMa October Collection #01 and #2.  Alice's sets are very time limited in release.  The sets I show here are availble until Monday, October 13 at 8:00 pm SLT.
Now don't let the title Newbie Assistance Pack scare you away.  They are called this because they include almost everything (shape, skin, hair, clothes, shoes, accessories) based on the need of the outfit. And these are not cheap, found all over the grid, outfits.  Alice takes painstaking time to do these right.  The first set I show you is #2 and it has a distinctly Halloween theme but I would not limit its use to October.  This set did not include hair (or I was trippin' cuz there is so much there!) so I included free unisex hair I found at Boon.  I am wearing the shape that was included in the package.  It includes 2 shirt options; the plaid shirt above and the orange jacket below.  The detail on both is incredible.
Collection #1 includes an entire avatar set.  I am showing the hair that is included in this set (and could be used just as well for the outfit above).  This set includes 3 colors of military-style cargo pants and shirts you can mix or match in both long and short sleeve style.
I just need to add.   Both sets include grundge boots.  Finding good shoes for men, let alone free, is a daunting task in SL.  These are well-made boots that fit my feet as well as my body proportions.  Go... hurry... don't stop... run!

03 October 2008

I really hate formal introductions.

Greetings my fellow freebie hunters. Just wanted to post a quick post saying Hi, and introducing myself to the blog.. So, Hi. I'm Spudgy Dean. I'll be posting here on the Free Finds For Men blog, frequently I hope. I started on Second Life in December of 2006. Back then freebies were hard to come by, and when they did, they were all in one big box so you would have to go through every item in hopes of finding something decent to wear. You would think that after almost 2 years on Second Life you would get out of the freebie hunting phase, but I love it. It brings me to a lot of new and different stores. Stores I wouldn't normally shop at, but are now some of my favorites. By default I'm an estate manager for Royal Chartered Properties, meaning I deal with land most of the time I'm online. I'm also a texture maker and builder, which I do mostly for the joy of doing it. If you come across a good deal, or even just want to shoot the breeze, don't hesitate to drop me an IM or a notecard. Ok, enough about me, let's get started.

I thought I would do something a little different. I'm going to post using my main account, Spudgy Dean, but I also made an alt account, Freefinds Jigsaw, just to see what it was like taking a new resident from noobish, to decent with as little money as possible. I provided Freefinds with L$200 to get started. And suprisingly, I was able to make a decent looking avatar for only L$2. That's right, 2 lindens, 2 dollars, 2 little ones, 2...well you get the point.

iNFLiCT has really came through for us guys this time. In the members area you will find a pair of great jeans that comes with 4 different styles of waist tattoos. A v-neck shirt in basic black that comes in 3 different layers. A great set of facial peircings. And my favorite, a pair of cargo shorts that comes in 4 different styles of waist tattoos as well. You'll have to join the iNFLiCT group to get access to the member area (which is on a different sim from the mainstore), but it's well worth it, providing with deals, group gifts, and so on. Just search iNFLiCt in the group search.

I found these great boots at ]MonoGrind[. I can't say enough about them, I love them. I know how hard it is to find decent free shoes for guys. I've been wearing these on my main account since I got them almost 2 weeks ago. They're a group gift, but you can join the group right in the store. Go up the ramp and turn around, in the middle of the store you'll see some boxes, and a group inviter sign. Just click the sign, join the group, and buy the boots for L$1.

Just a word of thanks to Eliza for letting post here on the blog. Hopefully, I can spread some of my great finds along to you guys. And with that, it's cereal time.

Where to get:

Jeans, V-neck shirt, Piercings, Cargos: iNFLiCT Members Area. You have to be a group member before you can get access to the sim.
